Barclay & Mathieson supplies a comprehensive range of steel handrail systems designed to provide safe, durable edge protection, guarding and zone segregation across industrial, commercial and public environments.
We offer two solutions: our EazyClamp tube-clamp handrail system and our ball-type handrail system. Both can be supplied as individual components or as pre-made posts / stanchions, allowing flexibility for standard layouts as well as more complex installations. BS 1387 steel tube is available for use with both systems.
These systems provide a quick-to-assemble, cost-effective approach to workplace safety and are equally suited to heavy industrial facilities and more visible public environments such as car parks, marinas and even retail spaces seeking an industrial-chic finish.

The EazyClamp system uses galvanised mechanical clamps to join steel tubes, allowing complete handrail structures to be assembled without welding or specialist fabrication. Components are secured using a simple grub screw, tightened with a standard Allen or hex key, making installation quick and straightforward.
EazyClamp is suitable for handrail applications up to 1.5kN/m and is particularly useful where systems may need to be modified, extended or reconfigured over time.
Manufactured from galvanised malleable iron and double-coated to BS EN ISO 1461, the fittings offer consistent casting quality and long-term corrosion resistance. All fittings are clearly marked for easy identification and supplied with 316 stainless steel set screws, with security pin options available where required.
The system is available to suit common tube outside diameters including 26.9mm, 33.7mm, 42.4mm, 48.3mm and 60.3mm, with a comprehensive range of tees, elbows, crosses, adjustable joints, wall flanges and base plates to accommodate straight runs, corners, slopes and changes in direction.
To simplify installation and ensure consistency, pre-made EazyClamp posts are available. These include end posts, mid posts, corner posts and return terminations, along with sloped variants for gradients between 0–11°.
Posts are supplied in a galvanised finish as standard, with powder coating available on request with typical requests being high-visibility yellow or black.

Our ball-type handrail system provides a more traditional look, using pre-formed balls, tubes, elbows and connectors. This system is well suited to permanent installations required to match existing elements or where a streamlined, less engineered appearance is required.
Ball-type systems are specified by shank diameter, handrail size, base type and base thickness, allowing a high degree of configuration to suit different layouts and fixing conditions. Shank diameters of 33.7mm, 42.4mm and 48.3mm are available, with standard or bespoke base thicknesses and a choice of self-colour or galvanised finishes.
A wide range of base types is available, including side palms, flat bases, circular bases and raked bases, along with straight connectors, right-angle bends, kick clamps and toe-plate connectors. Weldable elbows and balls are also available for use with BS 1387 tube, allowing greater flexibility where fabrication is required.

Both handrail systems are compatible with BS 1387 steel tube, available in a range of diameters, wall thicknesses and finishes. Options include self-colour, galvanised, primed and varnished tube, with plain or screwed ends.
For ball-type installations, a full range of handrail bends is available, including returns, stair returns, ramp bends and 90-degree bends, in 33.7mm, 42.4mm and 48.3mm outside diameters.

Steel handrail systems are widely used for walkways, staircases, platforms, mezzanines and raised access areas, as well as for zone segregation and guarding. Typical environments include industrial facilities, warehouses, manufacturing plants, commercial buildings and public-facing spaces.
Our technical team can advise on system selection, component compatibility, fixing methods and compliance, ensuring the most appropriate handrail solution is specified for your application.
